Understanding your decking & flooring options

Back

New decking or flooring can transform a space and create more comfortable, usable areas inside and outside your home. To help you understand your best options when it comes to materials, we’ve put together this handy explainer, so you know what you need to start your flooring or decking project today!

Flooring

When you’re deciding on the right materials for your flooring, it’s worth considering durability and where the flooring will be used.

If the space is a high traffic area in your home, such as the kitchen or a hallway, we’d recommend a dense timber such as Jarrah. Jarrah floorboards are extremely durable and resistant to pests, as well as being beautiful to look at, with their iconic rich red tone.

For a more traditional wooden flooring option, Baltic Pine has a creamy, lustrous look. These floorboards actually improve with age, as the older the timber gets, the stronger and richer it’s character. In Australia, flooring timber needs to withstand tough weather conditions throughout the year. A natural characteristic of Baltic Pine, is that it moves and adjusts with the environment, ensuring it lasts longer.

Decking

There are so many options for decking materials to help you extend your living area outside. From hardwood decking, to timber decking, to composite decking, to fixtures and fittings, your options are almost endless, so we’ve outlined our products and their unique characteristics and features for you.

Lunawood Decking

Lunawood is a thermowood composite decking. Because it’s resin and toxin free, it’s a great environmentally friendly, sustainable option for your decking. Lightweight, easy to install and resistant to high temperatures, it’ll stand the test of time too. The innovative profix clipping installation system gives your outdoor space a modern look, as there are no visible screws. You can prolong the life of your lunawood deck with surface treatments that will retain the original colour and clean look of your deck over time.

Millboard Composite Decking

Millboard composite decking is an environmentally friendly, plastic free, wood free, hard wearing, scratch resistant, anti-slip, no splinter, mould, rot or algae material, that’s virtually maintenance free. Because this polymer contains no timber or plastic, it is non-porous, which means it doesn’t absorb moisture, therefore it’s more stable than traditional decking, as well as highly stain resistant. Millboard composite decking maintains the rigidity and longevity of plastic, with the suppleness of rubber, so it feels much more natural under foot, while still offering incredible durability.

DuraLife Composite Decking

Duralife Composite Decking is a sustainably made material that consists of a blend of non-toxic polypropylene and recycled hardwood materials. It outperforms composite and PVC decking competitors, as it’s proven to be over 18% cooler than other decking options thanks to it’s CoolTrack technology and it has 136% better traction in wet conditions. It’s resistant to stains, fading, mould, mildew, moisture and temperature and offers a 25-year limited product performance warranty.

With the right care and maintenance they will last a lifetime and cost less than most composite decking options.
